LAMBS
The end of March sees the arrival of the first lambs. Here is
Victoria with her newly born ewe lamb .....

...... Zippy with her two ram lambs, just an hour old .....

The first week in April and many of
the lambs have been born. First priority is food .....
|
|
...... then strange creatures to discover .....
|
|
...... new friends to make .....
|
|
...... hills to climb .....
|
|
...... and then learning to run like the wind with the rest of
the gang .....
|
The lambs are between two and four weeks old here. In wet weather
they prefer to shelter in the lambing ark. They are still dependent mainly on
milk from their mothers, but they have started to nibble at the grass and herbs
too. The woodland has been opened up to them now since they are strong and
active and the fox danger has passed.
July now and the lambs are growing up. At three months the major
part of their food comes from the pasture and they are less dependent on milk.
The first picture shows the orphans Daisy and Lilah. (See the
SHEEP STORIES
page for their story.) The second picture shows our old lady Leah's daughter
April.
